Martin & Hillyer Associates
Laura Hillyer focuses her practice on personal injury law and insurance litigation.
Laura graduated from Queen’s University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. She then obtained her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario in 1999 and was called to the Bar in 2001.
Laura spent her first fifteen years at the Bar, dividing her practice between Personal Injury Litigation and Criminal Defence. She gained valuable trial experience during this time, which she now applies in her representation of her personal injury clients.
Laura is the President of the Ontario Trial Lawyers’ Association and serves on the Board of the Ontario Safety League. She is also actively involved with OTLA’s Helmets on Kids Campaign, which has as its goal to place a helmet on the head of each child who needs one.
Laura is a member of the Halton County Law Association, the Hamilton Law Association, the Ontario Trial Lawyers’ Association and the American Association for Justice. She regularly attends continuing education courses several times throughout the year, both in Canada and in the United States, to keep abreast of changes in the civil justice system and to network with other lawyers dedicated to providing the best representation to their clients.
Often, Laura is invited to speak at Continuing Legal Education events. She has delivered papers to the Halton Criminal Lawyers’ Association, Hamilton Criminal Lawyers’ Association, the Ontario Trial Lawyers’ Association, and the American Association for Justice.
Laura lives in Burlington with her husband and two children. When she is not working she enjoys amateur photography and many outdoor activities.
