Low Anterior Resection Syndrome or LARS is a functional elimination disorder that arises after undergoing a low anastomosis of the rectum. Preoperative radiation is known to exacerbate this condition. LARS is estimated to impact 80% of patients who undergo ostomy reversal after rectal cancer. Its consequences can last for many years. We will review the most recent research on LARS. However, the primary purpose of the presentation is to share a patient perspective and experience with LARS, describing the common healthcare system challenges I and other patients have encountered. The role of Enterostomal Therapy Nurses in intervention and patient support will be highlighted.

This presentation shares the patient perspective on this disabling condition, and reviews my experiences
